چکیده

We have been developing low power cryogenic readout electronics for space borne large format far-infrared image sensors. As the circuit elements, a fully-depleted-silicon-on-insulator (FD-SOI) CMOS process was adopted because they keep good static performance even at 4.2 K where where various anomalous behaviors are seen for other types of CMOS transistors. We have designed and fabricated several test circuits with the FD-SOI CMOS process and confirmed that an operational amplifier successfully works with an open loop gain over 1000 and with a power consumption around 1.3 μW as designed, and the basic digital circuits worked well. These results prove that the FD-SOI CMOS process is a promising candidate of the ideal cryogenic readout electronics for farinfrared astronomical focal plane array sensors. key words: far-infrared astronomy, cryogenic readout electronics, charge amplifier, VLSI, FD-SOI-CMOS

Germanium Detectors for the Far

Germanium photoconductors have been used in a variety of infrared astronomical experiments, both airborne and space-based. The bulk of our knowledge of the far-infrared properties of astronomical objects has come from observations made with these detectors. This paper describes the operational theory of these detectors, including amplifier considerations. Examples of recent focal plane array de...

Focal-plane-arrays and CMOS readout techniques of infrared imaging systems

A discussion of CMOS readout technologies for infrared (IR) imaging systems is presented. First, the description of various types of IR detector materials and structures is given. The advances of detector fabrication technology and microelectronics process technology have led to the development of large format array of IR imaging detectors. For such large IR FPA’s which is the critical componen...

The SIDECAR ASIC — Focal Plane Electronics on a Single Chip

Traditionally, focal plane arrays require extensive external focal plane electronics (FPE) to provide clocks and biases as well as to digitize the analog output signals. The FPE has to be well-designed and is typically large, heavy and powerhungry. Most importantly, the FPE has to be placed some distance away from the FPA, which complicates maintaining low noise performance throughout the compl...

A readout for large arrays of microwave kinetic inductance detectors.

Microwave kinetic inductance detectors (MKIDs) are superconducting detectors capable of counting single photons and measuring their energy in the UV, optical, and near-IR. MKIDs feature intrinsic frequency domain multiplexing (FDM) at microwave frequencies, allowing the construction and readout of large arrays. Due to the microwave FDM, MKIDs do not require the complex cryogenic multiplexing el...

Scene-Based Nonuniformity Correction Technique for Focal-Plane Arrays Using Readout Architecture

1 Spatial fixed pattern noise is a common and major problem in modern infrared imagers due to the nonuniform response of the photodiodes in the focal plane array of the imaging system. In addition, the nonuniform response of the readout and the digitization electronics, involved in multiplexing the signals from the photodiodes, causes further nonuniformity. In this paper, we describe a novel sc...
